A person applying for the CPL(A) must be 18 years old.

Before starting the training course for the CPL(A) licence the candidate must have

• the PPL(A) tourist pilot licence;
• a valid medical aptitude for flight certificate of class 1;
• completed 150 hours as a plane’s pilot;

The training course consists of theoretical and practical units.

The theoretical course comprises 250 hours of lectures in intramural sessions or 50 hours of lectures and 200 hours of self-training in distance-learning sessions.

Completion of the ATPL(A) theoretical training authorises the trainee to start the practical training required for the CPL(A) licence

The practical training is held with the use of SEP(L) class aircraft and consists of two stages

• Stage One – flights with visibility (minimum 15 hours)
• Stage Two – instrument-guided flights (minimum 10 hours).

The training must include a minimum of 5 hours of flight on a SEP(L) “complex”-class aircraft.

The SEP(L) “complex”-class aircraft is one certified for the carriage of a minimum of four persons, and equipped with controllable pitch propellers and retractable landing gear.

A candidate with no authorisation for night flights must additionally take at least 5 hours of night-flight training

Having completed flight training and fulfilled the requirements regarding experience the candidate sits for the LKE Aviation Examination Board state exam.
